Stock exchange

There are around 60 stock exchanges all over the world. All of these stock exchanges have different timings. In general, all the exchanges operate from morning to evening.

Most of the stock markets operate from Monday to Friday with some exceptions like the Tehran Stock Exchange of Iran which operates from Saturday to Wednesday.

The exchanges are closed on public holidays depending on country to country. Knowing the timings is important as the stock prices vary from second to second and huge buying and selling takes place in a single second.

So you don’t want to miss out on making profits, especially if you are an intraday trader.

Knowing the timings of the stock exchanges of your country is important but you should know the timings of other stock exchanges too if wish to invest in global markets because the timings will vary hugely due to the time differences across various countries.

What is the Pre-open market session?

Pre-open sessions are provided by many of the stock exchanges before the normal trading hours and they were designed to have control over huge volatility in the share prices if some major news comes overnight.

You can trade in the pre-open market but there is not great liquidity at this time. Check with your broker about the pre-market timings as they may have their own set of rules regarding the timings.

What is the Post-market session?

The post-market session takes place after the regular trading hours and it is useful for people who don’t get enough time for investing in the regular trading hours due to job or any other reason.

The after-market orders help people to react quickly to the news that might have an impact on the prices in the following day.

There are many delays in the systems in the pre and post-market sessions and thus many times your orders may not get executed and due to some disadvantages like low liquidity, high volatility, and competition from big investors, it is better to trade during the regular trading hours.
