Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, everyone including students and office goers are forced to work from home. It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time. This is not something that is quite normal to all of us but we should adapt to whatever comes our way instead of blaming the circumstances. Keeping ourselves productive at home is not an easy task as we generally spend most of our time by watching TV or web series the whole day. Let’s look at the “7 Ways to Stay Productive at Home.”
This is the most important way to stay productive in the long run. How you spend your first hour in the morning determines what your whole day will be like. Stay away from all the negative things in the morning.
How can you have a great day if you start your day checking emails, looking at everybody’s feed and other negative things? Give this precious time in the morning to yourself. Do things that will put you in a positive state of mind. It can be anything like listening to a positive video, listening to your favourite music, meditating, making notes about spending your day etc. Just make sure to not use the mobile for messaging or emailing.
You should select a space at your home where you can do all your work or watch your online lectures. It can be anywhere you feel comfortable. Select a place where there won’t be any distractions by anyone so that you can put your entire focus on your work.
Not everyone has their personal room to work in. So, your space can be anywhere; it can be a specific desk, a chair, or anywhere where you can switch yourself to work mode.
While at home, many of us think that we can easily perform multiple tasks at a time, like attending your lectures and making something to eat, working and watching TV at the same time. This might seem fun but it is a very unproductive thing to do. Multitasking greatly reduces your efficiency and thus you can’t be fully productive at even a single task. Focus only on one task at a time.
Make and follow a specific schedule for each and every day. Doing it helps you complete more tasks in a day and helps you to become disciplined. Allocate a particular time for each task depending upon its priority. Making a schedule is not a difficult thing but sticking with it consistently is not. Prepare a schedule that you can follow each and every day and don’t make it so extraordinary and tedious that you won’t be able to follow it for long term.
Watching the computer screen for a long time and just staying in the bed or couch is not healthy for you and has many effects like increased blood pressure, increased blood sugars and excess body fat. To avoid this, it’s best to just get up and move a little every 30-40 minutes. Getting up, walking a little, changing your body position or stretching is fine. It keeps your body moving and you won’t have any problems with body pain.
Many people spend too much time on things that are not productive. For example: Watching TV or web series, continuously scrolling the instagram feed, etc. These things don’t help you much and become an addiction which you are not even aware of. They consume too much of your time where you could have done something productive. Yes, it’s okay to sometimes watch TV and use your social media to relax yourself from your work. But the problem starts when they become addicted. Identify which tasks help you to grow and which tasks are making you unproductive. Try and replace these unproductive tasks into something productive. For example: Instead of watching TV for a long time, replace it with reading some productive books or learning something new through online videos.
In the end, you can only be productive if you keep yourself healthy. In this pandemic, we have realised how necessary it is to strengthen our immune system. Health should be your No.1 priority because “Health is Wealth.” Never compromise with your health. Exercising for a minimum of 15-30 minutes a day and following a healthy diet can keep you away from almost all the diseases. This is the best time for us to think about our health, avoid outside food and form a healthy habit. So don’t waste this precious time and bring about a transformation by forming healthy habits. It’s never too late to start.
